A booming economy
For example, the introductory article points out that “in the first quarter of this year, the nation’s economy grew at an annual rate of 6.6% - three times the rate in the UK and well above the 4.8% achieved in the US". This is no emerging market – rather a small but sophisticated economy… Britain is Israel’s biggest export market in the European Union. The overall £2.2 bn of trade between the nations last year was an all-time record…According to a survey conducted by analysis group Gartner, Israel is now a safer place to conduct business than Russia, India, China, Brazil, Mexico and the Philippines”. In addition, it also “ranks along with the best in the world when it comes to innovations, particularly high-tech and pharmaceutical industries”. The nation’s banking and financial institutions are strong, there is abundant evidence of “entrepreneurial flair” and “education establishments (are) examining new methods of fighting disease and hunger and probing the physics of the universe”. Naturally, all this economic growth and technological development might seem very attractive to a potential enemy. Which is just the situation described in the Bible. At the time when the Jewish people are once again back in their own land as a thriving nation, prophecies in the Bible predict an invasion by an enemy coming from the north of Israel, with the clear intention “to take a spoil, and to take a prey” (Ezekiel 38v12). So, according to independent observers today, modern Israel has plenty to tempt such an invasion. Fortunately, the prophecies also say that the invasion will not ultimately succeed with their intentions. That’s because God, through his son Jesus Christ, will intervene. Those dramatic events are just the start of tremendous changes that will come on the world when Jesus Christ returns to set up God’s worldwide kingdom, ruling from Jerusalem. Judging by current headlines, with threats to Israel’s safety as a nation clearly seen and heard each day in the news, the events prophesied so long ago in the Bible will soon come true.
